OUR BELIEFS & VALUES

Who We Are

Saranac Community Church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), with more than 750 congregations in the US and Canada, and approximately 2000 congregations worldwide. The ECC is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canda with ministries in five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the Word of God, the gift of God's grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity. Today, we continue to be "kingdom minded" in our commitment to preach, teach, and model the truth of Jesus Christ.

What We Believe

We are people united by Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey and pursue these central principles:

  • Obey the Great Commandment (Mark 12:29-31)
    • To love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength;
    • To love our neighbors as ourselves.
  • Fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20)
    • Go, make disciples of all nations;
    • Baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
    • Teach them to obey Jesus' commandments

As Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call Covenant Affirmations:

  • We affirm the centrality of the word of God
  • We affirm the necessity of the new birth
  • We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the Church
  • We affirm the Church as a fellowship of believers
  • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit
  • We affirm the reality of freedom in Chirst
We hold to and observe the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper and we welcome into membership all who confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
