Women’s Bible Study Group – on School Schedule – begins September 13, 2023 — if Saranac Schools are cancelled then we will not meet.

Sewing, Knitting, and Crafts Group

Join us on Wednesday mornings from 11:00am-12:00pm following the Bible study. Bring your hobbies and enjoy the fellowship. Please call the church office for more information at 616-642-6322.There is also a group that meets on Tuesdays at 10:00am in the Fellowship Hall.

Men’s Breakfast

All men are welcome and invited to this time of food and fellowship the first Saturday of every month (call to verify) at 8:00am in the McCarty Room.  December 2023 will be on Dec. 9.

Women of Worship
The women of Saranac Community Church are starting a “Women’s Brunch” on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 11am at the church AND you are invited!  This is open to anyone in the church and the community. 
We plan to have an awesome meal, some great conversation with bright women, and an uplifting message.  If you are active on Facebook, please like and follow Women of Worship for updates!

Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Saranac Community Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Saranac Community members are involved in a variety of ministries from preparing the church bulletins to teaching our children on Sunday mornings.

Sunday Morning Volunteers

The following opportunities exist on Sunday mornings to help with greeting the congregation and serving in the worship service.  If you are interested in any of the following service opportunities, please sign up in the narthex or call the church office for additional information:

Commission Descriptions


Building and Grounds: 

1. Schedule and approve all church building use
2. Authorize any use of church property or equipment
3. Prepare recommendations to the Council for adequate insurance coverage
4. Verify that an annual audit of church books has been accomplished
5. Provide maintenance and repair of the church building and grounds
6. Recommend the custodian or custodial services to the Council, and carry out regular evaluations of those employed
7. Designate where the official church papers and insurance policies will be secured

Christian Formation:

1. Recommend curriculum and teaching materials to the Council
2. Recommend teachers and any other personnel in the educational program to the Council
3. Promote the spiritual enrichment of the church family in coordination with the Pastor
4. Provide for the operation of the Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, child care during worship, church library, camp and college  scholarships, and special events through the year

Missions and Evangelism:

1. Promote mission emphasis through publicity, programs, and speakers
2. Promote local and denominational outreach efforts
3. Request from the Women’s Fellowship and other groups of the church a summary of their mission support activities to be integrated into the annual financial reports

Music and Worship:

1. Assign ushers, acolytes, lay leaders, and sermonette givers, and provide instruction as needed
2. Establish a plan for providing flowers for the sanctuary
3. Recommend persons for choir directors and organists to the church Council, provide for scheduling of music for worship services, and carry out regular evaluations of those employed
4. Provide for the assignment of piano and organ use for individual and group practice
5. Attend to details pertaining to worship such as maintaining altar cloths, altar candles, choir robes, the sanctuary, and hymnals
6. Coordinate and plan with the Pastor special worship services, music programs, Lenten programs, and Easter and              Graduation Breakfasts
7. Arrange for publicity for worship services and review periodically

 Pastoral Relations:

1. Consult with the Pastor as to his/her needs and objectives, and give pertinent data to the congregation
2. Recommend the pastoral salary to the Stewardship Commission for budgetary consideration
3. Recommend church staff appointments and salaries, i.e. Secretary, to the Council, and carry out regular evaluations
4. Provide a minister in the absence of the Pastor
5. Initiate action of the continuance of severance of the pastoral relationship with the church
6. Develop, maintain, and revise the pastoral expectations document, and conduct performance reviews

Sacraments and Visitation:

1. Prepare for the observation of the Baptism and Communion sacraments for the congregation and provide Communion to the shut-ins when requested
2. Review all requests for baptism and membership presented by the Pastor
3. Supervise the general visitation programs of the church
4. Determine any material needs of the congregation and seek means to alleviate the needs
5. Review church membership rolls according to established guidelines, and make recommendations to the Council
6. Provide for coordinated church growth efforts and outreach to newcomers through use of greeters and follow-up programs


1. Prepare the annual budget for presentation to the Council, not later than the regular October meeting of the Council.  Adjustments, if needed, shall be accomplished by October 21
2. Promote the development of good stewardship, and direct a member canvas for pledging to meet the budget requirements
3. Prepare financial information for the congregation during the year on special appeals, as well as status of giving in relation to the budget
4. Assist in counting of church offerings if requested by the Financial Secretary or the Council
5. Provide for a Memorials Secretary who will acknowledge memorial gifts

Financial Secretary:

1. Count and record church collections each Sunday, and record on the individual member giving cards
2. Make all deposits of church offerings and provide the treasurer with records of the deposits
3. Submit quarterly (or at such intervals as deemed necessary by the Council) to each individual contributing member, a record of his/her contributions
4. Record memorial gifts, special funds, and all other revenue
