Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Part of our mission as a church says that “We are Called to Care for Each Other”. One way we can do this is by sharing our time and talent to assist a friend in need. There are many members of our congregation who occasionally need help. They might have a problem with their car and need a ride, or they need help hooking up a printer, or need something repaired at their home. There are also many people at our church who have helpful gifts and would love to serve others. In light of this, the Music and Worship Commission has suggested creating a system that will assist Neighbors in Helping Neighbors here at SCC.

One of our newer members Mike Vatter has developed two great forms that will help us do this. One form is for caregivers and asks information about your availability and areas of ability (such as lawn care, child care, budgeting, electronic repair, etc). The second form allows people in need to list a request for help (i.e. maybe you need help with a ride to a doctor's appointment or help with home repair). This might be a one-time need or a re-occurring one.

Mike has also developed a computer program that will then help us to connect people in need with available, caring people. Of course we can't promise to meet every need, or to have a task for every care-giver. But we hope this will be a wonderful new resource within our faith family that will help us to truly “Care for Each Other.” If all goes well, we may even expand this service outside of our church. But for right now we'd like to keep this within our congregation.

God created us to need each other! We are stronger when we work together as the Body of Christ.
